The most polarising figure of 2023 in the Nigerian music scene, ODUMODUBLVCK is out with his debut project under Native Records and Def Jam. The much-anticipated mixtape carries the heavy title of EZIOKWU. When translated from Igbo to English, EZIOKWU reads truth.
About EZIOKWU
The truth about what? You might ask. Well to Ojogwu Tochukwu popular as ODUMODUBLVCK, it is the truth about his original sound—Okporoko, and defiance of the norm. His rough and ready statements have sometimes made the populace judge the artiste as crass. But that has never worried the Abuja-loving rapper, rather he has used it as fuel to motivate himself to his present position.
With his new mixtape, EZIOKWU, ODUMODUBLVCK continues to move with high frequency and amplitude the worldwide push of his indigenous music coined term—Okporoko. According to him, Okporoko is a fine blend of Igbo Highlife, Hip-Hop, (neo) R&B, and Afrobeats. This ODUMODU displays in full on EZIOKWU.
The percussions, the synths, the melodies, the guitar bassline, the vocal inflections, and the language spoken all point to Okporoko music.
Quick Rundown of Tracklist
ODUMODUBLVCK is known for self-affirming high-energy songs. In EZIOKWU, he delivers just that. SAINT OBI, TESLA BOY, DECLAN RICE, SHOOT AND GO HOME (to name a few)—bring that vibrant energy to our homes.
However, when ‘MODU is not declaring wars on his enemies and the naysayers, he is either chasing money to please the ladies or serenading them. STRIPPERS ANTHEM, KUBOLOR, COMMEND, and FIREGUN—attest to that.
Across the fourteen songs in EZIOKWU, ODUMODUBLVCK pushes the width of his artistry with counterintuitive lyricism and plush productions. He calls on a few of his colleagues to assist him with the EZIOKWU ministry. Amaarae (3), Blaqbonez (6), Reeplay (10), Teezee & PsychoYP (11), Bloody Civilian & Wale (8), Cruel Santino & Bella Shmurda (12), and Zlatan & ECko Miles (14) answered dutifully.
