Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-2 win over Brentford on Wednesday featured an intriguing and humorous side story involving rival players James Maddison and Neal Maupay.
It all began when Maupay scored the first goal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and mimicked Maddison’s darts celebration.
The Spurs players were offended by Maupay’s antics, and it seemed to inspire them as they scored two goals in a short period of time to win the game.
Brennan Johnson, who had come on at halftime, mimicked throwing a dart to make it 2-1 after Destiny Udogie’s equalizer. He then laughed about it with Maddison.
Then Richarlison joined in, making it 3-1 and celebrating with a darts throw before chasing after Maupay and scolding him.
After the match, there was a warm embrace between Maddison and Maupay, as both sides saw the funny side of things.
“He probably hasn’t scored enough goals of his own these past few years to have his own celebration, so he had to copy mine!” Maddison joked to TNT Sports.
