Marvel Studios seemingly still has plans for everyone’s favorite synthezoid superhero, the Vision. As Marvel’s Vision actor, Paul Bettany hints as his return to the franchise.
Vision originally debuted in Avengers, Age of Ultron as a creation of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. But he has since become a fan favorite character in the MCU. However, despite his popularity amongst fans the character has not appeared on the big and small screen for the past three years.
Vision last appeared in the season finale of Marvel’s WandaVision. Where two versions of the character battled to determine which was the original. The battle ended with the original Vision flying off into the unknown. Marvel studios also hasn’t given any updates on the future of the character.
But Paul Bettany, the actor who plays vision in the MCU recently alluded to the character’s return. According to The Direct the actor gave a positive response to a fan’s question about Vision’s return while speaking on a spotlight panel at Megacon 2024.
The fan asked: “Can you tell us anything, in any way shape or form, will Vision return? Are you going to return in the MCU.” Such a question would typically be deflected by an actor. However, Bettany instead paused briefly and then answered by saying:
“Uh……yeah.” Resulting in a cascade of applause from the audience. He then continued . “Why wouldn’t I? Yes, 100%.” The actor also spoke about his experience playing Vision during the panel. This was in response to a fan’s question about how he felt playing a “robot or android with a type of soul.”
“No idea. Well, I do have one idea,” Bettany began. “My plan was that he’s sort of an omnipotent ingénue when he’s born. And then as he gets more and more sophisticated with the amount of data that he’s receiving, he becomes more human. When you’re doing robots or artificial people or whatever it is, I guess the two stories really are Pinocchio and Frankenstein. ‘I’m a real boy now’ or ‘Who made me and what for?’ I suppose are the stories. So we were definitely in the Pinocchio camp. And that’s a really fun arc to play.”
“And how did I make him human? I am one,” Bettany added. “And they paint me purple and they put me in a robot suit. And I figure that stuff is taken care of and I just [focus] on the human stuff.”
Various publications have reported that Paul Bettany will be returning for a Vision Quest series. However, Marvel Studios has not officially announced the show. As such there is no guarantee that it will happen. Likewise, Bettany did not confirm or deny these reports but given his confidence it is certain that Vision will return at some point in the future.
