Netflix has renewed it longest-running Spanish scripted series, Elite for an eighth season.

Although the SAG-AFTRA strike is ongoing, and has shut down numerous productions across Hollywood. This dilemma has not stopped Netflix from making a series of production-related announcements in recent days, most notably the renewal of its Spanish teen drama, Elite.

The streaming giant announced on Wednesday that Elite is renewed for season 8. Production on the eight season will begin in August, two months before the show’s seventh season premieres in October 2023. Such an early renewal for an eighth season is a testament to the show’s global popularity and reach. Particularly because Netflix has become notorious among fans for cancelling shows early in their run.

Elite, now one of Netflix’s longest-running series, debuted in 2018. The teen drama captivated fans globally with its unique plot, centred on the relationships between three scholarship students at an elite school and their wealthy classmates. While simultaneously providing a whodunnit-style murder for viewers to solve. Created by Carlos Montero and Jaime Vaca, Elite received widespread acclaim upon its release. It significantly impacted pop culture, with several other teen dramas, such as Netflix’s Blood and Water, drawing inspiration from it. .

The show’s cast has changed significantly over the years, with most of the original cast no longer present. However, seeing an original cast member occasionally return is not unusual. For instance, original cast member Omar Ayuso (Omar) is set to return in Elite season 7. Netflix has also confirmed that original cast member Mina el Hammani (Nadia Shanaa) will return in the eighth season.

According to Netflix, season eight of Elite will also include two new cast members. Nuo Gallego and Ane Rot, two Spanish actors, are the newest arrivals. However, Netflix hasn’t disclosed anything about their role in the eighth season. The eighth season’s storyline is similarly a mystery. We hope that season seven will give us a few hints about what the show-runners have in store for season eight.
