Edo state hailing musician, Ugbekile David Osemeke known otherwise as Boy Spyce artistically is one of the brightest newest act on the Nigerian mainstream music scene. Apart from his tiny-voice vocals, he is also recognised as always identifying to the rabbit emoji on his social media pages, even down to carrying one on the cover artwork for his debut “Boy Spyce” EP, something he says did not happen by chance. He explains the symbolism of the rabbit (or a bunny) to who he is as a person on Pulse’s talk show, Pulse One on One on YouTube.
“Let’s talk about your EP, what was the meaning of that artwork?” Boy Spyce was asked. Expressing excitement as he was anticipating the question, he replies: “A lot of people has been asking me “Why the bunny?” . . . I see myself as someone different, I see myself as someone that has a different story, a different background, a different experience and I relate so much to a rabbit, I relate so much to a bunny because everywhere you go see dogs, you see cats but I feel like a rabbit is this pet that’s being sidelined [but] it’s a very beautiful pet. They are very cute like you can have ten rabbits in [a] room and you wouldn’t hear noise, they are so calm and beautiful so I relate so much to it because that’s how I see myself.“, the “Destiny” singer beautifully expressed.
It does not stop there asBoy Spyce goes further to show the significance of him relating so much to a bunny, “I’ve always been this person that was sidelined and I know I have so much potential in me, I just needed someone to believe in me and just pick me up and say: “Ok, I want to pick you.” So that’s why I relate so much to that rabbit. It justs reminds me that I’m different. I might not be the regular artiste you see everyday, I might not be the regular person you see everyday but it doesn’t mean I’m not special.“
