Mason Greenwood’s reintegration into Manchester United will be decided after polling players on both the men’s and women’s teams.
Following the dismissal of Greenwood’s criminal charges, United has opened an internal probe. The football player was on trial in November for accusations of attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior.
Speaking to the leadership groups of the men’s and women’s teams will be a part of United’s process. While there hasn’t been a player-wide consensus expressed, sources have told ESPN that a number of people have reservations about re-inviting Greenwood to the team.
Since January 2022, the 21-year-old hasn’t participated in united matches. After his detention, he was immediately suspended from practice and games.
According to sources, United’s own investigation will be wide-ranging, including looking into the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
United has declined to comment on rumors that manager Erik ten Hag had already spoken to Greenwood.
The forward has a deal at Old Trafford through 2025, with an another year option. Since making his United debut in 2019, he has made 129 appearances and has played once for the English National team.
According to sources who spoke to ESPN, a number of sponsors would be concerned if Greenwood decided to play again for United.
