Wizkid aka StarBoy aka Big Wiz is no newcomer to the game. Charts, records, accolades, sold-out shows, features (you name it) are easily accessible to prove the magnitude of an artiste he has grown to be. On the international scene, he has work with top names including Drake, Skepta, Justin Bieber and Beyoncé but that is not enough for the 31-year-old global star, rather he has other iconic figures in the music world on his music to-do list if it ever comes into fruition. This he revealed in a recent interview with US entertainment and sport franchise—Complex—via their YouTube page.
“I definitely want to do something with Lauryn Hill if it ever happens. She’s like — she’s a big inspiration to me. I love Lauryn Hill.” Wizkid says emphatically when the question of who he would love to collaborate with popped up. Lauryn Hill will always be known for her groundbreaking and statement album titled, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”, released in 1998 containing classics like “Doo Wop (That Thing)”, “Ex-Factor”, “Lost Ones” etc. Although that was Lauryn Hill’s debut, it turned out to be her only album till date. She was also part of the Hip-Hop trio, Fugees.
Lauryn Hill has been silent musically ever since but the impact of her solo album is still very much felt today as it was back then, scooping various awards including best R&B at the 1998 Grammys and putting her name in the discussion for one of the best rappers ever; all these Wizkid is aware of, fancies and would like to experience as he declares Lauryn Hill as one musician he would love to work with. Wizkid also mentioned ’90s R&B neo-soul acts in Erykah Badu and Maxwell as top favourites he would want to do music with.
