Daniel Benson, publicly known as Buju or Buju To Your Ears is having himself a wonderful year, safe to say he must like the way he is feeling now. Jokes aside, Buju appeared on Hip TV‘s trademark STREET show, speaking on his come-up to being one of the hottest acts in the music industry right now; amidst other topics touched on, he also revealed the meaning of his stage name and the inspiration behind it.
“The name “Buju” came up in 2017 when I was writing a poem and I was like “Beauty Underneath Just Understood”, so I was just [trying to] describe the talent I had—how beautiful it was, I needed people to understand how beautiful it was“, Buju explains. Speaking on the origin of the name itself, he sheds more light, to which he says “the meaning of Buju is “breadfruit”—it’s a nickname given to chubby kids”. Buju says the name and aura behind it fits perfectly for him and he was loving it so he went with the name while he spiced it up by adding “To Your Ears” as suffix.
