Every week, we take a look back at the weekend action in the Premier League and collect our divisional Top Stats of the Week, with the most recent round of fixtures proving to be particularly entertaining. Despite being relegated to ten men on the stroke of half-time, Liverpool and Chelsea shared the spoils, while Manchester City inflicted further agony on Arsenal to pile the pressure on Mikel Arteta.
Manchester United rode their luck to a slender victory over Wolves, who were fortunate not to fall behind as Wolves threatened on the break. Early on, De Gea was beaten when Francisco Trinco’s effort was cleared off the line by Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but he came to his team’s rescue with a miraculous double save to deny Roman Saiss from close range.
Elsewhere Tottenham have maintained their unbeaten start to the season, but Wolves and Norwich have joined Arsenal in going into the international break without a point. Livramento, Southampton’s summer addition, has had an immediate impact in his first few appearances for the Saints, cementing his place in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans. In Southampton’s 2-2 draw against Newcastle, he put in another mature performance, undeterred by his promotion to the Premier League after coming through Chelsea’s academy system.

- 3 – Bruno Lage is the first manager to lose his first three Premier League games without his side scoring a goal since Crystal Palace’s Frank de Boer in August 2017.
- 4 – Since 2003-04, only West Bromwich Albion (5 in 2010/2011) have lost more consecutive Premier League games in which they had more shots than their opponents than Wolves’ current run of four.
- 28 – Manchester United are now unbeaten in their last 28 Premier League away games (W18 D10), establishing a new record for the longest unbeaten away run in English Football League history.
- 20 – Mason Greenwood is now one of only four players in Premier League history to score 20+ goals as a teenager, after Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Wayne Rooney.
- 3 – Tottenham Hotspur have won their opening three league games of a season without conceding a single goal for the first time in their history.
- 30,000 – Chris Wood’s strike was the 30,000th goal ever scored in the Premier League.
- 3 – Three of Son Heung-min’s last four goals for Tottenham in all competitions have come from outside the box, as many as his previous 43 strikes for the club. Today’s goal vs Watford was his first direct from a free-kick for Spurs.
- 1974 – Today is the first day that Arsenal will end bottom of the English top-flight table having played at least three league matches since 25th October 1974.
- 5 – In all competitions, only Mason Mount (6) has scored more goals for Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel than Kai Havertz (5).
- 2 – Newcastle v Southampton is the first Premier League match to see both sides score in the 90th minute or later and end in a draw since Watford 1-1 Leicester City in June 2020.
- 7 – Michail Antonio (4 goals, 3 assists) is only the third player in Premier League history to be directly involved in seven goals in a side’s opening three matches of a season in the competition, after Thierry Henry in 2004-05 and Didier Drogba in 2010-11.
- 17 – Since the start of the 2019-20 season, Jack Grealish has provided 17 Premier League assists; the only English player with more in this time is Trent Alexander-Arnold (21).
- 2 – This is only the second time that Arsenal have both had a man sent off and been 3+ goals behind at half-time in a Premier League game; the other was a 6-0 defeat at Chelsea in March 2014 (4-0 at half-time).
- 10 – Manchester City have now opened the scoring in each of their last 10 Premier League meetings with Arsenal, with eight of those opening goals coming in the first 20 minutes of the start of those matches.
