Zack Snyder is officially done with superhero movies following his stint at Warner Bros. Discovery. Snyder, who directed some of the most iconic and controversial superhero films of the past decade, including Watchmen, Justice League, Man of Steel, and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, revealed that he no longer has “excitement” for the genre.
The director stated this in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. However, he also stated he’d consider tackling certain stories if Marvel or James Gunn should ever come calling.
When asked what project he’d be willing to work on in James Gunn’s new DCU, Snyder said he’d like to work on “a true representation” of Frank Miller’s iconic Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. For Marvel, the director revealed he’d consider directing a Daredevil and Elektra movie. But only an adaptation of Miller’s Elektra Lives Again. “But that’s it,” he said.
Snyder has no interest in the genre beyond those projects. “We’ve been on the treadmill; it has not evolved,” Snyder said. “I don’t have the excitement for it that I used to have.” Regarding his feelings about his turbulent time making superhero movies in DC, he told THR, “In the end, it could not have gone any other way.”
Zack Snyder may no longer be into the superhero genre but the director is still hard at work. He is currently working on his space opera Rebel Moon, which debuts on December 15 for a limited theatrical release. Then it premieres on Netflix on December 22.
