What’s a Madea family hangout if there’s no secret threatening to spill? Well, that’s exactly what Tyler Perry has ready for debut on popular streaming platform, Netflix. A Madea Homecoming is an American comedy film written and directed by Tyler Perry. This is the 12th film to be released in the Madea franchise. The plot revolves around Madea’s family coming into town to celebrate great grand son’s college graduation party. While at it, secrets from the past threaten to spill and ruin the joyous reunion.
Tyler Perry had earlier promised to retire the bold and assertive grand-matriarch after 2019’s A Madea Family Funeral and the 2020 live Farewell Play Tour. However, he later shared with Variety in 2020 the reason he had a change of mind.
“The amount of joy and laughter that it [Madea] brought to so many people, that’s what I think is missing. We need that laughter and that joy.”
The film reportedly has a budget of more than $20 million. Filming took place last summer at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Ga. Some of the cast that reprise their roles from the past Madea productions are: Cassi Davis Patton (Aunt Bam), Tamela Mann (Cora), and David Mann (Mr. Brown). Making a guest appearance is Brendan O’Carroll as Agnes Brown.
The 1 hour 45 minutes film was produced by Mark E. Swinton, Will Areu, and Michelle Sneed. The cinematography was by Taylor Randall, and it was edited by Larry Sexton. Phillip White provided the music.
A Madea Homecoming will be available for watch on the 25th of February, 2022.
