2023 has been an interesting year for movie lovers worldwide. This year superhero movies and other tentpole franchises did not dominate the top spots. Instead, this year, audiences turned out in mass to watch films with no ties to an existing franchise, such as Barbie and Oppenheimer. Both of which now sit in the top 3 highest grossing movies of 2023 spot. These movies along with several others have made a significant impact on the box office this year. So without further ado here are the highest-grossing movies of 2023 so far.

1. Barbie: $1.4 billion

2. The Super Mario Bros. Movie: $1.3 billion

3. Oppenheimer: $942 million
