Big tunes, now it’s big tunes I’m killing”, “I want to fly, yeah, I’m flying till morning”, “Running away to the land of discovery”, and “Higher than all the limits” are some of the beautiful lyrics sung heartfully by Tems in ‘Higher’, the original song sampled in ‘WAIT FOR U.’

The above-quoted lyrics excerpts were recorded and released in 2020 but it was not until last year (2022) that the Tems’ feature ‘WAIT FOR U’ by Future also featuring rap icon Drake got released, and now she (Tems) secures her first-ever Grammy award.

In a very competitive category that enlisted other A-list acts like DJ Khaled, Future, and SZA (‘Beautiful’); Latto [‘Big Energy’ (Live)]; Kendrick Lamar, Blxst, and Amanda Reifer (‘Die Hard’); and Jack Harlow (‘First Class’), it is ‘WAIT FOR U’ by Future, Drake, and Tems that comes out victorious.

By being a joint-winner in the “Best Melodic Rap Performance” group, Tems create history! Here they are:

1. Her first-ever Grammy win.

2. The first-ever female African act to win in a major category at the Grammy Awards.

3. The first-ever female Nigerian to secure a Grammy plaque.

4. The second female African musician to win a Grammy award.

What a historic win for Temilade Openiyi pka Tems.

Congratulations to Tems and her wonderful team on the Grammy win.
