Divine Ikubor, widely addressed as Rema for his musical works must have known from the jump when he declared “Another banger” in his first single of 2022—Calm Down, that the song was going to break records.
Needless to say, Calm Down is Rema’s most-streamed song on DSPs, accumulating several certifications and plaques in the process. Today, March 9, 2023, sees the crossover hit breaking the record for the most-viewed Nigerian music video on YouTube with 400M total views.
Calm Down is just over a year old with its February 11, 2022, release date. This makes it the fastest Nigerian music video to reach such a colossal count on the video platform, YouTube.
Initially, Calm Down held the record for the fastest music video by a Nigerian to achieve a 300M view count on YouTube (December 2022). It took just 3 months for Calm Down to beat its Personal Best, garnering 100M views between January 1 and March 9, 2023.
This puts Rema in a very special class with just 8 overall African songs (including Calm Down) to cross the 300M mark on YouTube. To narrow it down, Calm Down joins a rare upper-echelon African music video to strike the 400M count on YouTube. It joins Aya Nakamura‘s Djadja (910M), Maitre Gims‘ Bella (562M), and Master KG‘s Jerusalema (548M).
Congratulations to Rema on this outstanding feat. Incredible!
