Premier League Game Week Four Round-Up

Manchester United and Liverpool suffered heavy defeats at the hands of Tottenham and AstonVilla respectively with the Red Devils suffering a 6-1 home defeat while the Reds went down to a 2-7 away defeat.

There was also a minor upset at the Etihad Stadium where Marcelo Bielsa’s men, Leeds United went toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola’s Man City, grinding out a one-all draw in a pulsating encounter. Elsewhere, there were victories for Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea.

It has also been a season of very few clean sheets so far with just 4 teams keeping a clean sheet this game week; Chelsea, Southampton, West Ham and Wolves only teams to do so.

Meanwhile, with the help of Opta data, we look at some of the interesting numbers from the weekend.

• 7 – Liverpool are the first reigning English top-flight champions to ship seven goals in a league match since Arsenal against Sunderland in September 1953.
• 6 – For the first time in the two clubs’ history, both Liverpool and Manchester United have conceded six goals in a match on the same day.
• 5 – Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham side have equaled the biggest ever margin of victory (6-1) for a manager vs a former club in the Premier League and the biggest since Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool beat Swansea 5-0 in February 2013.
• 28 – Eddie Nketiah’s shot for Arsenal was the first of the match in the 28th minute, the longest wait for a shot in a PL match since December 2019 (Southampton v Crystal Palace, 35th minute).
• 0 – Leicester failed to record a shot on target in a Premier League home game for just the third occasion since 2003-04 (also, v Liverpool in December 2019 and v Man City in November 2017).
• 13 – West Brom’s Sam Johnstone is only the second goalkeeper to concede 13+ goals in his first four Premier League games, after Fraser Digby for Swindon in 1993-94 (14).
• 1 – Oriol Romeu ended a run of 43 games without a goal in the Premier League netting his first of the season with what was his first touch in the opposition box in 2020-21.
• 18 – No player has scored more headed goals in the Premier League than Michail Antonio since he made his debut in the competition in September 2015.
• 8 – Southampton’s last 18 Premier League games against promoted sides has seen them have a run of five consecutive draws, five consecutive defeats and now eight consecutive victories.
• 4 – Callum Wilson is the first player to score as many as four goals in his first four Premier League apps for Newcastle since Les Ferdinand in 1995-96.
• 4 – Newcastle have scored with all four of their shots on target so far in the Premier League this season.
• 1 – Rodrigo Moreno is the first Spanish player to score for Leeds United in the Premier League, netting just three minutes and six seconds after coming on as a substitute.
• 2 – James Rodríguez has scored 2+ goals in a league game for the first time since March 2019, when he netted a hat-trick for Bayern Munich against 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga.
• 34 – Since the start of last season, Raheem Sterling has scored more goals than any other Premier League player in all competitions (34).
