Julian Nagelsmann, former Bayern Munich manager, set for temporary role as German national team head coach until 2024 UEFA Euro. This change comes after Nagelsmann’s contract with Bayern Munich, where he served as manager from April 2021 to March 2023, was terminated.
He guided the team to two DFL-Supercup wins and secured the Bundesliga championship before his mid-2022 termination, ahead of contract end.
Despite interest from Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Paris Saint-Germain, Nagelsmann didn’t join top clubs after leaving Bayern Munich. After Germany fired Hansi Flick following a 4-1 loss to Japan in a recent friendly, Nagelsmann was rumored to succeed Flick.
Rudi Voeller, the interim manager, oversaw a 2-1 victory over France but clarified his temporary role. The German national team needed a new permanent manager for Euro 2024 preparations. After Flick left, it became known that the German Football Association (Deutscher Fussballbund) had eight candidates on its shortlist to consider.
Jurgen Klopp, was in high demand, but he declared his dedication to Anfield for the remainder of his current contract. Although it’s important to note that “Die Mannschaft” has never had a non-German manager, the list also included the name of Louis van Gaal, the former manager of Manchester United. Nagelsmann, a German coach who is currently unemployed, rose to prominence as a leading candidate for management. His track record at Bayern Munich was impressive; under his direction, the team won 60 out of 84 games. Many onlookers were taken aback by his abrupt exit from the club.
