Fireboy DML

Adedamola Adefolahan is a Nigerian Afropop and R&B/Soul artiste known worldwide by the stage name Fireboy DML. In a recent interview with lifestyle magazine FLAUNT, the singer addressed a misconception about his sound and gave hints on what to expect in the future from him musically.

“I wouldn’t say my sound has changed per se,” Fireboy clears off the rip when asked if he had switched up his style to accommodate a larger audience. Continuing from where he stopped, “I would say my sound has evolved,” he clarifies. The “times and times and the growth of African music over the years” are highlighted factors that influenced the evolution of DML’s sound. To simplify it, Fireboy tags his sound as “multidimensional.” Why? It “is a fusion of Afrobeats with pop and R&B.”

Delivering a superb album in 2024 is Fireboy’s goal. “My upcoming project is going to be beautiful and my fans are going to love it–I can just tell,” he assures.

On what to expect from his next album, Fireboy tells FLAUNT it is a culmination of 2023 experiences. “I’ve taken all [of 2023 experiences], I’ve packaged everything mentally, and I’m using that to walk forward,” DML states. On the completion of the album, “I can’t wait to get back home to Lagos and finish [it],” he notes.
