Warner Bros. and Toho are continuing to build their shared Monsterverse franchise. With Apple TV plus series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has gotten its first trailer ahead of its debut on Apple TV Plus in November. The 10-episode series is part of Warner Bros. and Toho’s shared Monsterverse franchise. Which features several iconic characters such as King Kong, King Ghidorah, and Godzilla.
Per Apple TV Plus, the first two episodes of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will premiere globally on November 17. Then, subsequently, the streamer will air a single episode weekly until January 12. This weekly release format will allow the show to tell an expanded storyline following three generations.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters kicks off after the events of 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. However, the series aims to delve beyond Kaiju fight sequences and examine who the true monsters of the monsterverse are. In an interview with Variety, the show’s executive producers. Joby Harold, Tory Tunnel, and Matt Shakman, said: “The show explores the question of who the true monsters are in a world of coexistence with Titans.”
Further, the series official synopsis reads:
“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw. The series takes place in the 1950s and half a century later, where Shaws knowledge threatens Monarch. The dramatic saga—spanning three generations—reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.”
Interestingly, Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell will both be playing the role of Shaw. Monarch also stars Elisa Lasowski, Joe Tippett, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Mari Yamamoto, Ren Watabe, and Anders Holm.
