Wizkid Ayo Balogun is a certified trendsetter, record-breaker and record-holder when it comes to the Nigerian and African music scene, this he has shown once again, this time being one of the only Nigerian and arguably the only African artistes to have their album chart as high as peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard World Albums Chart.
“Made In Lagos” previously peaked at No. 2 on the above said charts some weeks after its release in 2020 but just last week, over 40 weeks since its release in October 2020, it re-entered the Billboard World Albums Chart Top 10, sitting comfortably at the No. 3 spot, major thanks to the recent surge in streams and airplays (both radio and TV) of “Essence” and its remix.
Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos” joined Burna Boy’s “Twice As Tall” as the only Nigerian and African albums to reach reach No. 2 on the Billboard World Albums Chart but can now confidently hold the record alongside Burna’s “Twice As Tall” as the only albums from Africa to reach the summit of the chart, more impressive is if we consider how long it took MIL to achieve said feat—41 weeks after debuting on the charts.
With “Made In Lagos (Deluxe)” about to drop this week Friday, it is only right to expect the upsurge in MIL’s plays and streams to continue, hence, it being on the charts for way longer than we can guess.
