Liverpool Deserve To Be Premier League Champions If Only The League Season is Completed

No doubts Liverpool have had in impressive season so far, the Reds are leading the Premier League with 25 points ahead of Manchester City. They look to end the season with a defeat but Watford made sure that did not happen. The fate of the current League season hangs in the air as it has been suspended til April due to the coronavirus pandemic. The resumption of the League doesn’t look feasible at the said date as there is a rapid increase in the virus Outbreak.

There are agitations from some quarters that Liverpool should be crowned the Premier League champions since the league can’t be continued but handling the Reds the league title will cause chaos and they are only deserving it only if the League is completed.

The Reds are currently 25 points clear of second-placed Manchester City. Mathematically, Liverpool need two wins more provided Manchester City fail to win their next two games for the to be crowned champions. One can make a case for Liverpool that they have cleared the coast but it is what it is.
If Liverpool is awarded the Premier League title based on the standard of more points, what standard will Champions League qualifications for next season be based on?

Manchester City ban is still upheld baring any last minute by CAS and this could be to Manchester United or Sheffield advantage in taking City’s slot, Sheffield United are two points behind Manchester United with less game played. Chris Wilder’s side still have an advantage of a game at hand and winning this game will see them leapfrog Manchester United into the fifth position and this is also a valid point.
The situation is a lot less clear for teams trying to survive the relegation water, Aston Villa with fewer games played over the likes of Watford and West Ham and able to move out of the bottom three if they win that match.

Despite Liverpool holding a near unassailable lead, it is not a clear case elsewhere in the table and the solution to this is only the Premier League consider an alternative solution in making it a full season despite the coronavirus pandemic else some decisions won’t be fair to some teams.
