Have you ever imagined what your favorite celebrity was like in high school (or secondary school)? In terms of composure, attitude? Grade-wise whether they were the serious student type, the average student type or the very unserious type? If they were the responsible, caring, diligent, friendly kind? Or quite the opposite? Well if you are like me or some others, it is only normal to have wandered in that direction. So sit back, relax and enjoy the following hypothetical yet comical write-up on how rappers might have acted or been if they were to have attended the same high school.
In making this list, we put into consideration the lyrics, the persona of each rapper (that his how he/she has chosen to portray himself/herself to the world via the various forms of media), how the media portrays the rappers, what we know about the rapper and for some, well we just used who they are affiliated with to fill up their roles. Well enough said, let’s dive into the subject matter. Shall we?
Dr. Dre:
Role: Principal
When you take a proper look at Dr. Dre, no doubt you’ll agree he’s one of those few rappers who have been able to maintain longevity in the music game and stirred away what might be called “bad media” or rumors or beef from himself and his business. Or if at all any sort of altercations come his way, he’s been able to quench the fire and settle the bad blood between himself and the person and this sort of behavior has gained him a lot of respect not only among his peers in the music industry but in the media generally.
Not only has he spent over 20 years in the music industry but he’s also made a lot of money. Just to be clear, if Dr. Dre wants something to be done, he’ll go the length of getting it done. So it ‘s only wise he’s accorded the role of a principal to maintain order in the school of rap (pun intended).
JAY-Z:
Role: Vice-Principal
His records speak for him. Infamous for his quote: “I’m not a businessman. I’m business, man”. And since that quote or bar, if you’ll address as such, he’s kept that persona at the highest level. If you get involved in trouble that you don’t deserve like in the case of Meek Mill and 21 Savage (to name a few), JAY-Z is your go-to for help and advice just a VP Acad. does for the students in the school when they have problems with schoolwork or academic; making sure they stay on the right path of finishing school with good grades. Plus we all know JAY-Z got a lot of love in the media and respect follows him wherever he goes.
Rick Ross:
Role: Head Prefect (Boy)
Rick Ross is one of those rappers who has been able to keep his composure for as long as we know so it’s only right he acts as the representative of fellow students in the school of rap as the most respected prefect. When Rick Ross speaks, he does so with eloquence and enthusiasm. Isn’t that enough a quality for the position of head prefect?
Missy Elliot:
Role: Head Prefect (Girl)
Mention three female rappers and skip Missy Elliot’s name and you’re almost immediately tagged a joker or a newbie in listening to rap music as a genre. Missy has been able to keep her repertoire excellent for as long as we can remember so it’s only befitting she serves in the position as female head prefect.
Kanye West:
Role: Rowdy, Uncontrollable but still comes out with good grades
If we know Kanye West then we know one thing for sure he likes being noticed and he does this in various ways either by his music or fashion choices or his many infamous antics. In spite of all these, one thing is also certain: Kanye West doesn’t make bad songs and albums hence the part that says he always comes out with good grades, in fact, excellent grades.
Drake:
Role: Student everyone loves
Whether you’re a Drake fan or not, there is no denying the fact that you like Drake. Even if you want to deny it, you find yourself bopping your heads and moving your body to the tunes of Drake’s songs once in a while. Drake is that kid in school everybody wants to be with or around, he’s that kid that makes girls feel trippy without saying a word, just by winking his left eye. Just off of the vibes he radiates, everyone tends to love Drake.
Megan Thee Stallion:
Role: Newcomer who immediately gains school’s recognition and fame
Megan Thee what? Megan Thee Stallion peoples. Yeah, you heard right. Just last year alone, she sold a lot record and gained fame in ways we never expected. Now we know why she dubbed herself “Hot Girl Meg” because she just can’t stay low profile, you can’t help but feel her presence.
Lil Mosey:
Role: The popular junior student/ JSS3 who has a school father in SSS3
Young rapper Lil Mosey rise to mainstream stardom seems instantaneous, therefore fitting the role of the junior everyone likes or the junior who makes it obvious his school father is in SSS3 and therefore can’t go unnoticed by other people in the school.
Iggy Azalea:
Role: Gained popularity by dating a famous guy in the school
The only reason Iggy Azalea made this list is because of the aforementioned role. Period. Her momentary fame seemed never-ending but after two years and probably “bad media” and inconsistency she’s fallen off the fam- ladder drastically.
Kodak Black:
Role: Problem child
In almost every high school or secondary school, there’s always that one student who in one way or another gets involved in acts of misdemeanor directly or indirectly and when called upon to face the school’s ‘jury’, they never deny it, so they take the L for their guys and gets punished severely for it.
Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Young Thug, Gunna, Lil Baby, Tory Lanez:
Role: The social ones
in every school, there is that group of people or students who always bring vibes to the class and once a social function is on be it: End of the Year Party or Children’s Day or Prom or Cultural Day or any other social gathering involving students involvement, they always bring their best self in terms of performance, hyping whoever has a role or generally building a lively ambiance and making the occasion fun and interesting. Nicki, Cardi, Travis, Thugger Thugger, Gunna, Tory Lanez and Lil Baby get featured a lot on songs of other musicians and their social media participation is not one to sweep under the carpet. Hence their reasons for being in this category.
Rapsody, Big Sean, J. Cole:
Role: The quiet students who no notice until the prize-giving day
Almost everyone here might easily recognize Big Sean and J. Cole but in the case of Rapsody, they go M.I.A due to the fact that they don’t know her or just haven’t seemed to recognize her yet. J. Cole, Big Sean, and Rapsody have managed to keep a low profile since the onset of their careers but when they drop or release a song, you can’t help but reckon with the fact that they not only make interesting songs for mainstream attention but also intelligent, well-written song verses to go along with them.
No one notices them because they rarely cause an uproar on social media, neither are they in the tabloids so often as their contemporaries but when they release songs, it’s always deserving of an award, to say the least.
Kendrick Lamar:
Role: The brilliant student who singlehandedly scoops all the awards on prize-giving day
Kendrick needs no further introduction and we all know why he is in this category. Kendrick Lamar has won various accolades and almost all his works (that is albums) get nominated in at least one category at music awards show anytime they get released. It’s no surprise then why he has won so many awards.
It’s joked around that if Kendrick should sneeze and cough throughout the entire duration of a single song, it would be a marvel worth studying. Yeah, Kendrick Lamar is that good.
Eminem, Ski Mask the Slump God, J.I.D, Busta Rhymes:
Roles: The talkative
No offense to the above-listed rappers or their fans (lmao) but it’s true that they speak a lot at an instant. Without even digging deeper into who these rappers are, Eminem alone has broken his record twice for most words said under one minute in a rap song. When these rappers spit bars, it’s always hard to catch up due to how fast they flow when rapping.
Tyler the Creator, Lil Dicky, Jaden:
Role: Awkward/weird kids but fun to be with
Tyler the Creator right from his introduction has always showed us his weird sides, he’s the only male rapper I know who is comfortable teasing and rapping with homophilic bars; for Lil Dicky, he’s the only male rapper who boasts of his tiny genitals; well Jaden is just Jaden with his ways.
These are rappers who don’t follow the contemporary urban style of rapping about drugs and guns but are distinct in their raps and behaviors yet we like them for that.

Role: Trouble makers, snitches, unserious students
Enough said, no cap.
