The first season of HBO’s hit show House of the Dragon ended on a cliffhanger. Wherein Aemond Targaryen killed his cousin and son of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, Lucerys Velaryon. This development aligns with the source material, Fire & Blood, by George R.R. Martin. In the book, the death of Lucerys catalyzes an all-out war in Westeros called the Dance of the Dragons.
An online news outlet, Redanian Intelligence, has provided an update on the upcoming second season. According to the outlet, the first episode of the season premiere is titled “A Son for a Son.” The title is derived from a scene in the book Fire and Blood.
In the scene, Rhaenyra receives a letter from Daemon Targaryen in which he consoles her about the tragic loss of her son. In the letter, Daemon writes: “An eye for an eye, a son for a son. Lucerys will be avenged.” This scene will, however, be different in the show because Daemon is in Dragonstone with Rhaenyra.
Further, Daemon then tasks two characters, Cheese and Blood, to infiltrate the Red Keep and murder one of Ming Aegon’s sons. The show has already announced that Sam C. Wilson and Mark Stobbart will play the characters in the upcoming indicating that it intends to stay true to its source material. Likewise, fans recently spotted the production team filming a scene in Caceres. The scene involved Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower and mother Helaena Targaryen at a funeral. Thereby fueling speculations that it was the funeral of Prince Jaehaerys.
Although these are still speculations, director Clare Kilner recently said that the show’s showrunner, Ryan Condal, intends to give fans “a good opening and ending” for season two. Furthermore, season two of House will conclude filming in September and is already nearing the final stages of production at Leavesden Studios. It will also consist of only eight episodes featuring a star-studded cast, including Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, and Olivia Cooke.
Further, House of the Dragon season 2 will premiere on HBO and Max sometime in 2024.
