Golden Globes: Michelle Yeoh, Zendaya and Others Win Big


The 80th Golden Globe Awards returned to television screens on Tuesday evening with a bang, honoring the best of Hollywood in 2022.Several notable names, shows, and movies from the previous year were honored for their ingenuity and impact on pop culture during the three-hour telecast, which saw several unexpected turns of events as well as predicted outcomes.

Unsurprisingly, HBO’s prequel series “House of the Dragon” won best TV drama; however, in a stunning upset S.S. Rajamouli’s directed film “RRR” won best original song for the song “Naatu Naatu,” making history as India’s first film to do so.

Further, ABC’s fast-rising “Abbott Elementary” was named best TV comedy. Quinta Brunson, who also plays Janine, an idealistic public-school teacher on the show, was named best actress in a TV musical or comedy, while Tyler James Williams, her co-star, was named best supporting actor (TV).

Hollywood veteran Michelle Yeoh won the coveted “Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy” award for her role in the 2022 hit “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.” While accepting her award, the actress spoke briefly about her experiences with ageism and racism. Yeoh stated, “”All of you ladies are aware of this.” “As the days, years, and numbers grow longer, it appears that opportunities begin to shrink.”

Ke Huy Quan, another “everything, everywhere, all at once” star, took home the award for Best Supporting Performance in a Motion Picture. Angela Bassett did the same for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The actor, on the other hand, used her time on stage to honor her late co-star, Chadwick Boseman.

Other notable honors include Steven Spielberg’s best director win for The Fabelmans, his third Golden Globe win. “”The Fablemans” also won best motion picture drama, and “The Banshees of Inisherin” won best motion picture musical or comedy.

Likewise, Colin Farrell won “best performance by an actor in a motion picture, musical, or comedy” for his role in “The Banshees of Inisherin.””Best actress in a TV drama” went to Zendaya, Kevin Costner won “best performance by an actor in a a television series” for his role in Yellowstone.

Cate Blanchett won “best performance by an actress in a motion picture – drama” for Tár, “best performance by an actor in a motion picture drama” went to Austin Butler for his role in “Elvis,” and “best motion picture, animated” went to “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.”
