Fireboy DML rises to the top position on Official UK Afrobeats Chart with “Peru”

Fireboy DML’s July-released single—Peru—was a smash-hit from its conception. First of all, Fireboy’s vocal on the song is one to reckon with, not to mention is the the Wande Coal sound-alike comparison on the second verse which made for an interesting conversation on the online scene, plus the various covers by top and upcoming artistes proved the magnitude of attraction Peru‘s pulled since its release.

This week’s Official UK Afrobeats Chart sees Peru climbing up its very much heavyweight ladder to make it to the summit, at the number one position. The single had previously spent 10 weeks on the chart, including an extra week (starting Sunday, October 17), leading to a total of 11 weeks on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart.

Peru which previously had enjoyed the top position on the chart some weeks ago, got displaced by “Want It All”, the collaboration between Burna Boy and Polo G last week to the third spot but this week the catchy song with the hook of “Peru para Peru Peru para” comes back even stronger, moving up two spots to reclaim the No. 1 spot. “Petite” by Nigerian Ghanaian men-group, “Mood” by Wizkid featuring Buju and the trending TikTok song, “Alcohol” by Joeboy round-up the Top 5 of this week’s Official UK Afrobeats Chart.
