“Fall” by Davido is Platinum in the USA!

Davido

David Adeleke, famously recognised by his artiste name, Davido, is one of the leading pioneers of modern-day Afrobeats starting in the 2010s, and there is enough proof in the stat sheets to show his workings. One of those proofs is his crossover hit single, “Fall”, released on June 2nd, 2017, which just got certified Platinum in the United States of America.

Fall is a love song in which Davido woos his lover, whetting her appetite with dreams of lavish living, even promising to stay away from his womanising endeavours. The song almost immediately went global as it contained catchy, easy-to-learn lyrics. Also putting in my mind the early Summer 2017 release, Fall was the right song for that season.

Quotables such as “Money fall on you / Banana fall on you”, “Are you done talking?”, and “I don’t wanna be a player no more / Yeah, I don’t wanna be a player no more / ‘Cause my guys call me Cristiano / Mr. Ronaldo, Omo Nintendo, ehh” filled the internet space, especially social media applications like Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp in 2017/2018.

Now, 5 years, 7 months, and 17 days after the release of Fall by Davido, it has finally received one of the most prestigious recognition in the history of worldwide music, that is, a Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling a cumulative 1,000,000 (one million) units through streams, plays, downloads, and sales.

This marks Davido’s first solo Platinum plaque in the States, following the footsteps of other recognized Platinum Nigerian stars in Wizkid (“Essence”) and CKay [“love nwantiti (ah ah ah)”].

Fall was announced Platinum on Thursday, January 19, 2022, topping its previous Gold recognition on May 28, 2020.

Finally, “Fall”, reaches Platinum status

Congratulations to Davido on his latest achievement!
