Everton have officially appealed a decision by the Premier League to dock them 10 points for violating financial rules.The Toffees were handed the biggest punishment in Premier League history by an independent commission.
The club has submitted its appeal to the Premier League’s judicial panel, which will now appoint an appeal board to hear the case. Everton acknowledges the rule breach but maintains that the penalty’s severity is unwarranted.
The appeal hearing and decision will take place before the end of the current season.
“Everton Football Club has today filed an appeal with the chair of the Premier League’s judicial panel against the decision by a Premier League commission to impose a 10-point deduction on the club,” Everton stated.

BBC Sport has gathered that the club has not received an explanation from the independent commission that imposed the sanction regarding how the 10-point figure was determined. Additionally, they believe that a sporting penalty for breaking financial limits is unfair.

The appeal will be presented to a panel that will evaluate the commission’s ruling, assess the process, and determine whether the penalty issued was fair or not.
Due to the points deduction, Everton dropped from 14th to 19th position in the Premier League table.

Several regional politicians, including Liverpool Mayor Steve Rotheram and Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, an Everton season ticket holder, have also expressed concerns.
