UK’s JAE5 continues to build the bridge connecting UK and Nigeria musically. His second single of the year features Streatham rapper Dave and Nigerian hotcake vocalist, BNXN fka Buju on the retrospective-themed song dubbed Propeller.
The song starts with BNXN serenading the listeners by flexing his vocal range, shortly before Dave begins rapping about his come-up, how the odds were against him and the grind he has had to put into the music business to make sure things change for the better. “Married to the hustle, the money my best man / Me against the world, my girl my best friend / I sleep in South, and chill in the West End / . . . / Remember when I had sleep for dinner / I’ma live and live to tell the story / Every day I give God the glory / It’s been a long time”, Dave reflects.
BNXN on his part boasts of his immaculate rhyming scheme while hailing the town he grew up in, Gbagada (a Local Government Area in Lagos state), “Been a long time since I learned to put rhymes together / Spin ’round your block, I’m a big propeller / Came with my team, I came with my breddahs / I swear, I’m comin’ from Gbagada (Woah, oh-oh)”, BNXN sings the chorus, making sure to reference the solid team behind his blowing.
Dave handles the second verse, BNXN shines on the bridge and outro, leading to a beautiful JAE5-produced instrumental fade away.
The music video for Propeller was shot in Gbagada as indicated by the rooftop shot cover artwork of the single.
