Chris Hemsworth appears to have voiced a wish for a fresh take on his MCU character, Thor, when he returns to the big screen. This was mentioned during a press conference to promote his new Nat Geo/Disney+ documentary series Limitless.
“You look at Thor 1 and 2, they were fairly similar,” Hemsworth stated on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused Podcast when asked about his aspirations for the character’s future. “Ragnarok and Love and Thunder have a lot in common. I believe it is time to reinvent it. With Infinity War and Endgame, I’ve got such a rare opportunity to experiment with the role. That’s something I like doing; it keeps folks on their toes. It keeps me guessing. It maintains my interest. I’ve stated it before, but when something becomes too familiar, I worry about becoming lazy because I know what I’m doing. So I’m not sure.”
Although Taika Waititi’s directed Thor: Ragnarok made over $760 million at the global box office, the film got mixed reviews from viewers and critics alike, with many condemning its absurd tone as inconsistent with the character.
With fans and the main character becoming bored of Taika Waititi’s comical treatment of Thor, it appears like Marvel will need to bring in a new filmmaker to oversee any 5th solo adventure of the character and give the different tone everyone is looking for.
