Taika Waititi recently confirmed that he will not be directing Thor 5, following the negative reaction to Thor: Love and Thunder. However, Waititi, in a new interview with Inverse, confirmed that Marvel and star Chris Hemsworth are already discussing a fifth Thor movie.
When speaking on his involvement in Thor 5 during the interview, Waititi said, “It’s a very draining process working on these films for two and a half years and nonstop.” He further stated that he is focusing on his adaptation of Klara and the Sun. Which is about a robot chosen to be a companion for a sickly child. “The story is something that I’ve been wanting to do for a little while now,” Waititi added. “And so I want to focus on that. And then I’ve got all this backlog of other things.”
The director has several other projects in the works, including a Star Wars film and a live-action adaptation of Akira. So Waititi undoubtedly has a lot on his plate, but he still has hope of returning to the character (Thor) eventually. Stating that “it’s just about when I would be able to fit that in.”
Further, the god of thunder may return to some other project aside from Thor 5. There have been rumors that Marvel Studios is considering a soft reboot of the MCU and developing a new Avengers film that features the original crew, including Chris Evans Captain America, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow.
