Bob Iger Returns as CEO of Disney.

In an unexpected turn of events, media behemoth Disney announced the return of ex-CEO Bob Iger to the firm for a two-year stint. In an announcement issued late Sunday (20/11/2022), the corporation claimed that Iger’s replacement, Bob Chapek, has resigned down from the CEO post.

According to Disney board chair Susan Arnold, the company’s directors think Iger is “uniquely equipped” to lead the entertainment powerhouse through “an more complicated era of industry upheaval.””It is with an extraordinary sense of gratitude and humility — and, I must confess, a touch of astonishment — that I write to you this evening with the news that I am returning to The Walt Disney Company as Chief Executive Officer,” Iger said in an email to staff.

During his previous 15-year time as Disney CEO, Bob Iger is known for achieving a variety of goals, including the incorporation of Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Fox’s entertainment divisions into the Disney family, as well as the development of the Disney+ streaming service. He is now contracted to serve as CEO for two years, during which time he will assist the company’s board in developing a new replacement.

Chapek’s dismissal is being attributed to his drastic cost-cutting measures, mishandling of Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit last year over her pay for “Black Widow,” and his inability to prevent a Republican bill in Florida that would prohibit teachers from teaching early grades on LGBTQ issues, which resulted in significant backlash against the company.
