Aquaman 2’ Grosses Over $100M In The Global Box Office In Its Opening Weekend

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom debuted with $108.1 million at the global box office. The Warner Bros./DC production grossed $80.1 million from 73 markets in its 3-day opening weekend. This places its total gross so far at an estimated $108.1 million worldwide, and projections indicate that this figure will rise to $120.1 million on Monday’s.

Further, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently the No. 1 film of the weekend globally. It is also ranked as the top Hollywood title in 53 of its 73 markets. This is quite impressive, seeing as the film failed to impress critics. It is also performing well in China, grossing $30.4 million in its opening weekend in the country. The biggest opening for a superhero film is in 2023.

It has Grossed 16% more than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and 68% more than Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. It also significantly outperformed The Marvels, Batman, The Flash, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Maoyan projects that Aquaman 2 will have a total gross of $45 million in China. Making it the first Hollywood film in a while to lead the country’s weekend box office. However, despite this accomplishment, Aquaman 2 will not outperform the original in China.

The movie starring Jason Mamoa was the highest grossing Hollywood production in all other Asian markets. In Singapore, Aquaman 2 had the biggest opening weekend of 2023 for a Warner Bros. film; in Malaysia and Indonesia, it had the second-highest opening weekend of the year. Similarly, the movie scored the highest opening weekend of any superhero movie this year in Taiwan.

The Warner Bros./DC movie also dominated as the top Hollywood film in every market in Latin market. Furthermore, China ($30.4M), Mexico ($5M), Indonesia ($3.6M), France ($3.2M), and the UK ($3M) are currently its top 5 markets.
