2022 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) voting site will open to the public on Sunday, September 25, at 21:00 (CAT) to choose the winners of each of the 39 award categories.This announcement was made on Friday by the International Committee of the All Africa Music Award (AFRIMA), in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), encouraging African music lovers to vote intensively using the voting portal live at www.afrima.org, before the portal closes on December 10, 2022, the eve of the awards.More information on the voting process, which will also be reviewed by the international accounting company PriceWaterHouseCoopers (PWC).
PWC, which audited other major worldwide awards like the Oscars, will audit the voting site, compile the results, and deliver them during the awards, as it did for the AFRIMA 2021 edition. “AFRIMA’s basic principles of FACE IT – Fairness, Authenticity, Creativity, Excellence, Integrity, and Transparency remain at the heart of our operations,” says AFRIMA’s Executive Producer/President Mike Dada. “We are strengthening these core principles with PWC, ensuring that we stay as inclusive, credible, and honest as ever.”
Last Wednesday, the list of candidates was revealed globally, showcasing a total of 382 nominations across all 39 categories. The nominations, which have received widespread praise, are the result of a rigorous 10-day assessment process conducted by AFRIMA in July when a 13-member jury convened. Furthermore, only entries received between August 20, 2021, and August 5, 2022, were considered for consideration for this year’s prizes.
According to AFRIMA’s Executive Producer/President, Mr. Mike Dada, the awards organization continues to be the pinnacle worldwide acknowledgment of African music, acting as a model for other award bodies on the continent. “We are well aware that several other award bodies replicate our nominations every year. As the highest worldwide acknowledgment of African music, we serve as a source of inspiration for both music gatekeepers and music enthusiasts throughout the business. This year’s edition of AFRIMA is a step forward in showcasing African talent and expanding our creative ecosystem more in that way“, he stated.
Mrs. Angela Martins, the African Union Commission’s Head of Culture, urged music fans to vote decisively and objectively. “We’ve done our part,” she remarked. It is now up to you, the fans, to choose your victors. Remember that these are very competitive and merit-based categories. Allow your votes to assist the greatest person(s) in becoming champion.“
2022 All Africa Music Awards will now take place from December 8th to 11th, 2022. On September 30, 2022, a special announcement regarding the host country and venue for the awards will be made. The AFRIMA awards event will be a four-day celebration of music and glamour intended at honoring Africa, recognizing talents, and promoting African culture, extending the economic horizons of the continent’s cultural and creative industries. The event will begin with: a welcoming reception, followed by the AFRIMA Music Village, the host city tour, the Africa Music Business Summit, the private nominees’ party, and will culminate with a live awards ceremony televised to over 84 countries worldwide.
African music fans can participate in the events through social media, live streaming on the AFRIMA website, visiting the social media platforms (IG, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn – AFRIMA) and watching the event coverage through their local and cable TV providers.
AFRIMA is a youth-focused music portal developed in collaboration with the African Union Commission. African artists’ work and abilities are recognized throughout generations.
AFRIMA primarily fosters debates among Africans and the rest of the world, particularly about the potential of the creative arts for developing genuine human entrepreneurship and significantly contributing to social cohesion and sustainable development in Africa. The activities program aligns with the AU Agenda 2063, which states Aspiration 05 is the growth of the arts and culture sector, especially its cultural and creative industries, to help the African economy grow.
